Thelma Lee Bullock is a lifelong resident of Rocky Mount. She’s 68 years old and grew up in an era of change in Rocky Mount. She’s the daughter of the late Reverend Dr. Elbert Lee and Mrs. Rachel Lee and have four siblings. Her parents were strong Civil Rights leaders in the 60s. As a child, their home and church was a meeting place as leaders from across the State would stop by to strategize on the latest efforts to pass along to the community. Thelma stand on the shoulders of strong women in her community, such as the Mrs. Vivian Tillman, Mrs. Genotre Peny-Boone, Mrs. Thelma Stokes, Mrs. Ethel Bryant, Mrs. Ruth Jones, the Honorable Helen Gay and Dr. Geneva B. Chavis. During the 60’s, former Congress- Woman Eva Clayton was often in our City, meeting with community leaders. Often times, she and other youth would pass out voter education materials out to the neighborhood of upcoming events affecting the community. She is a graduate of Rocky City School. Attended NC A&T State University and graduated from Shaw University with a BS Degree in Business Administration/Management, earned MBA degree from Phoenix University, and received MABC in Biblical Counseling and Th.D. in Theology from Nashville Bible College. She own and operate “Simplicity Travel” a travel agency, and previously shared TV Ministry “Walking By Faith”. Her working career began with Abbott Lab currently known as Pfizer for a short time. She started a career with the State of NC and served several departments, such NC Department of Labor, NC Department of Health & Human Services, NC Department of Secretary of State under the Administration of Secretary Elaine Marshall, NC Department of Revenue and NC Department of Commerce where she retired. Thelma has also served as a volunteer in the Nash Rocky Mount Public Schools with “At-Risk Children”. Thelma was named “Mother of the Year” by the local NAACP. She is a member of Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she served as Chaplain and leader of Sisterhood. This sorority focuses on service to all mankind. The Mayor of the City of Rocky Mount proclaimed January 15, 2025 as “Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Day” in the City of Rocky Mount. Thelma Lee Bullock is married to James Bullock and they have five adult children, and six grandchildren.
Thelma Lee Bullock is running for City Council – Ward 7 because she believes the voice of the people matters and our community thrives when every voice is heard and every neighbor has a seat at the table. She’ll stand for those unseen and speak for those unheard. She believes without a Vision, the people will perish. Her vision is to see unity, progress and equity for all Wards and all people standing together and thriving.
Thelma Lee Bullock has a passion for people and an advocate for children, families and the elderly. Her voice as an advocate can help set policies and implement programs that meet the present challenges such as ensuring Safe Neighborhoods, Job Development for our adults and youth, Empowerment/Mentorship for the youth, Affordable Housing/Community Revitalization, and Walk/Bike trails/Sidewalks to name a few.
She will work hard to make the local government more transparent and accountable. As Ward 7 representative on the City Council, she will look after the needs of not only her constituents but also for the entire City.
